Specialist fair for solar/photovoltaic technology answers demand in Asia-Pacific
for renewable energy
October 2010 sees the return of World of Solar,
which made its debut in 2009 as a "fair-within-a-fair" at electronicAsia. In its 2009 edition, the fair presented 570
exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, who had the opportunity to
meet with over 30,000 top quality buyers from 143 countries and
regions.
The International Exhibition and Conference for Solar & PV
Technology, World of Solar, responds to the huge upsurge in demand
for this technology, as well as the overwhelming need for related
information, in the Asia-Pacific. The event rounds out the exhibitor
profile of electronicAsia, which is the regional trading hub for
components, assemblies, electronics production and display
technologies.
As well as providing much-needed sourcing opportunities in
solar/photovoltaic technology, World of Solar brings together some
of the world's leading voices in energy conservation and alternative
energy sources. Their presence makes both the fair and the
concurrent World of Photovoltaics Conference a highly significant
forum in the Asia-Pacific.
The opportunities in Asia for solar and PV technology are enormous
yet there is limited access to the resources necessary to implement
the technology. World of Solar addresses this need by bringing under
one roof a comprehensive offering of the latest solar technologies,
components, products and services, photovoltaic and renewable energy
equipment, engineering and technology.
The conference complements this with discussions on implementation
measures, the regulatory environment, market potential and other
current opportunities and challenges. Additionally, the fair's
exhibitors take the opportunity to host their own technical forums
and workshops.
"Soaring growth" is the description applied to the Southeast Asian
solar/PV market by analysts Frost & Sullivan in a recent report
("Southeast Asian Solar PV Systems Market Outlook") quoted in Global
Solar Technology South East Asia - Spring 2010. The report
attributes this surging demand to increasing awareness, global
decline in price, strong government support and use of solar power
in rural situations.
According to the report, stronger government support through
policies, fed-in-tariff schemes and other development programmes
have resulted in gradual uptake of solar PV systems both for on-grid
and off-grid applications, "and not forgetting attractive profit
margins are strong factors which are likely to entice new entrants
into the Southeast Asian markets."
Frost & Sullivan said that the solar/PV market in Southeast Asia was
not impacted by the global financial crisis and recorded revenues of
$99.6 million in 2009, with revenues expected to hit US$255 million
in 2016.
Since the first edition of World of Solar in October 2009, interest
and enthusiasm for solar/PV technology has only increased, with the
global PV market expected to grow by an estimated 8,000MW between
April 2011 and March 2012.
The success of World of Solar is firmly based on this increasing
demand for renewable energy.
The organisers of World of Solar 2010, MMI Asia Pte Ltd (MMI) and
the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will be networking
with industry leaders during Intersolar Europe to highlight the
enormous possibilities of the Asia-Pacific solar/PV market and the
role of World of Solar in opening up this market. MMI & HKTDC will
also hold a press conference for media representatives. |
